ANTOLOGÍA POÉTICA "LENGUA DE MADERA" por HILARIO BARRERO

TELL A LL T HE TRUTH BUT TELL I T S LANT

Tell all the Truth but tell it slant—

Success in Circuit lies

Too bright for our infirm Delight

The Truth’s superb surprise

As Lightning to the Children eased

With explanation kind

The Truth must dazzle gradually

Or every man be blind—

EPIGRAM ENGRAVED ON T HE COLLAR

OF A DOG WHICH I GAVETO HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS

I am his Highness dog at Kew;

pray tell me, sir, whose dog are you?

EPIGRAMA GRABADO EN EL COLLAR

DE UN PERRO QUE DI A SU ALTEZA REAL

Yo soy el perro de Su Alteza Real;

decid, Señor, ¿de quién sois vos el can?

Alexander Pope (1688-1744)

MARRIED

I came back from the funeral and crawled

around the apartment, crying hard,

searching for my wife’s hair.

For two months got them, from drain,

from vacuum cleaner, under the refrigerator,

and off the clothes in the closet.

But after other Japanese women came,

there was no way to he sure which were

hers, and I stopped. A year later,

repotting Michiko’s avocado, I find

a long black hair tangled in the dirt.

CASADO
